Three ways to include your best friend, red wine, in your beauty routine.

Yes, you’ve read correctly. Wonderful red wine, in addition to being a terrific companion to dinners, eating dark chocolate and reading by the fireplace, can be used to make you look even more beautiful. The benefits come from resveratrol, an anti-aging property in the wine; which is now being used by top notch beauty companies in their creams. In fact, resveratrol has been proven to be more effective at reducing free radicals than Vitamins A and E.  Here are three DIY red wine beauty treatments you can try at home.

Red wine body scrub

Body scrubs are wonderful for your skin as they exfoliate dead skin cells, where 90 percent of dust settles. Scrubs are also helpful in removing acne and other scars.

Ingredients:

Method:

In a bowl or large jar, mix all the ingredients together well and scrub your entire body during a bath or shower. End off the exfoliation with a body cream to seal in moisture. Your skin will tingle slightly afterwards and feel silky and soft.

Red wine face mask

While daily cleansers remove dirt and oil, a face mask is needed to draw out impurities below the top layer of epidermal skin. This mask is perfect for those who have sensitive skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg white
  • 3 tbsp of Two Oceans Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
  • 1 tbsp raw organic honey

Method:

Gently mix the egg white, honey and red wine to create a smooth paste. Spread it evenly onto your face and neck, avoiding your eyes. It is quite a liquid-like mask, so lie down after applying it so it can stick to your face or relax in the bath. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the mask off with lukewarm water and pat the skin dry with a clean facecloth or towel. End off with a moisturiser to tighten and seal in the moisture.

Red wine hair treatment

The quest for perfect hair can often lead us to spending ridiculous amounts of money on hair masks, conditioners and creams. The saviour has been in your cupboard this whole time. Red wine has been proven to fight dull, damaged or frizzy hair. Simply use shampoo and conditioner as you normally would except use red wine for the final rinse.

Bonus treatment

What makes these beauty treatments so fantastic? You can enjoy a glass of red wine when you’re done, adding to that fresh post-spa feeling.
